Andy Hackbarth

Saturday, October 7, 2017 7:30 PM

Award-winning classical/Spanish/fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Andy Hackbarth pays tribute to the “Father of the Classical Guitar,” Andres Segovia, through instrumental selections and short stories about Segovia's life and music. This eclectic musical journey transports listeners from the music of Bach and the cathedrals of Germany, to the hills of Spain and the work of Albeniz and Tarrega; from classical Europe, to the southern tip of South America.  "A Tribute to Segovia" also looks to modern music and how Segovia's work has influenced the contemporary guitar world.

Brass Roots Trio

Saturday, February 17, 2018 7:30 PM

Three world-class musicians redefine the chamber music genre with the fusion of classical, jazz, Americana and Latin styles. With TRUMPET, FRENCH HORN and PIANO, plus the bonus of a brilliant operatic tenor, BRASS ROOTS TRIO wraps the audience in exquisite sounds. The trio has dazzled audiences and critics alike with their pyrotechnic virtuosity, artistic passion and adventurous programming.

Travis Heath (trumpet & flugelhorn), Douglas Lundeen (French horn & vocalist) and Rosetta Senkus Bacon (piano) infuse their music with exuberant energy, and their warmhearted presentation makes an immediate connection with the audience.

A pioneer of this instrumentation - piano, trumpet and horn - BRASS ROOTS TRIO has played to standing ovations and rave reviews in every corner of the US and UK since 2004. Their tours have included performances at OxfordUniversity, St. James Piccadilly in London, the Chicago Brass Festival, and on Community Concert Series, Chamber Music Series and NPR. In 2009 the trio was honored to perform for President and Mrs. Obama and their guests at the White House.

The trio’s concert programs are an  eclectic mix of styles.  From a Baroque duet with piccolo trumpet and horn to jazz inspired Gershwin to Piazzolla’s decadent tangos and American Spirituals, BRASS ROOTS TRIO creates symphonic sounds that melt into sultry jazz, making three instruments sound like a small orchestra – and it’s always a surprise when the horn player puts down his instrument and sings a Verdi aria with his magnificent tenor voice! The commentaries throughout the program are informative and often humorous.

Exhilarating performances and imaginative programming have established BRASS ROOTS TRIO as one of the most    compelling ensembles of the 21st century.
